London's newest events venue - The View

Beautiful views of the city, a large rooftop terrace and four elegant and versatile rooms, The Royal College of Surgeons of England and its catering and events partner Searcys is delighted to introduce London’s newest destination venue, The View is located on the sixth floor of the prestigious College. Now open for events, conferences, and meetings, as well as private celebrations and weddings, The View blends history (the building has been the home of surgery since 1797) with modern, sustainable spaces, and outstanding seasonal British food and fine wines from the UK’s longest established events caterer and restaurateur, Searcys.

The Space

For events from 10 to 300 guests, the top-floor venue spans across four versatile spaces, including two conference suites, each equipped with wide screens, podiums and charging points, alongside optional partitions. For smaller groups, two boardrooms provide the ideal space for group breakouts or intimate dinners, which encompass the building’s heritage with reclaimed wood panelling and feature fireplaces. For drinks receptions in the evening sunset, head to the outside Park View terrace, with views across to The Shard and London Eye.

Downstairs is home to an assortment of rooms and state-of-the-art learning facilities, alongside a new public café and the Grade II* listed Lumley Library. Located on the first floor, the historical space possesses one of the finest medical science library collections in Europe, and can hold intimate gatherings, receptions, and indulgent dinners.

Menus

Menus, created by British caterer and restaurateur, Searcys, focus on seasonal dishes that celebrate the best of British and sustainable produce. Running from breakfast to elegant afternoon teas and fine dining menus, Searcys have created a range of packages to cater to all events, with 15 different menu styles on offer. Catering to all, with menu options available to suit dietary requirements, choose from breakfast buffets with alternative healthy swaps, a quintessential Queen’s Afternoon Tea, to a Food Equilibrium menu which reduces the amount of meat within a dish, without sacrificing flavour. And with the festive season fast approaching, Christmas dining packages are also available.

Menus are paired alongside an expertly crafted wine and champagne lists, together with a selection of non-alcoholic alternatives, with a dedicated team on hand to match to any preference.

The Venue

The opening of The View follows an extensive refurbishment of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, which reopened its new headquarters in July 2021. The historic frontage remains, designed by Palace of Westminster architect Sir Charles Barry, while the inside takes a high-tech and sustainable approach, creating state of the art learning and event facilities, alongside the Lumley Library, contemporary meeting rooms, members’ areas, and a public café. The Hunterian Museum, which is also housed in the College, will reopen in early 2023.

With sustainability at its heart, the redesign took an innovative approach to the future of working. From installing 111 solar panels and using FSC accredited timber, to environmentally friendly practices including recycling 98.5% of waste and reducing carbon emissions through energy saving controls and Brompton lockers to encourage members to cycle. Sustainability runs across the menus too, as in-house caterers Searcys are certified with the top three-star Food Made Good accreditation from the Sustainable Restaurant Association and use only British suppliers for sourcing produce. This includes partnering with Extract Coffee, which run off 90% renewable electricity with 100% of the coffee waste recycled into bio-methane and bio-fertiliser.
