Herts Pubs Company to Open Second Site, The George in Graveley

Hospitality group, Herts Pubs Company, is set to launch its second Hertfordshire site, The George in Graveley this June, following the successful opening of sister pub, The Cock in Hitchin.

Housed in a 18th century, Grade II listed building, The George has undergone a full refurbishment to create a modern village pub offering seasonal British dining, a strong sense of community and a standout wine list.

Originally a coaching inn along the Great North Road, with a history spanning back over 250 years, great care has been taken to preserve its heritage, blending original features with contemporary furnishings and touches to create a refined yet welcoming space.

The pub features a statement bar, and two dining areas accommodating 51 covers, including the Garden Room inspired by the Hertfordshire countryside, and a 10-cover private space. Outside, an expansive garden and patio, centred around a fire pit with curved seating, offers alfresco dining and drinking.

The design balances traditional character with more contemporary touches throughout. In the main pub, original Chesterfield chairs sit alongside round oak tables for a more traditional feel, while the dining area features modern wood panelling and plush banquette and booth seating for group bookings. Botanical prints, graphic elements and warm timber finishes run throughout and into The Garden Room, complemented by a palette of green, bronze and brown, reinforcing the garden inspired concept.

Championing quality, seasonal ingredients from British suppliers, including Aubrey Allen, Flying Fish and Keltic Seafare, lunch and dinner menus will range from bar bites to larger plates. Created by Herts Pubs Company Executive Chef, Joe Walker, expect the likes of Old Winchester cheese and British pickle crumpets; baked pollock with a crab doughnut, braised leeks, fennel and a shellfish sauce; and a sticky banoffee pudding with earl grey butterscotch and ginger ice cream, whilst Sundays will feature a dedicated roast menu.

The bar will offer a selection of local craft beers and ales, a concise list of cocktails and a curated list of wines from across the globe, including a cellar list of lesser-known bottles and vintages.

Operations Director, Adam Msetfi comments: “We’re excited to announce our second site as we begin to grow our portfolio of neighbourhood pubs in Hertfordshire. As a community pub steeped in history, we are committed to retaining the heritage of The George whilst introducing a refined, premium pub offer rooted in quality, seasonality and genuine hospitality for the local community and those coming from further afield”.

Launching in early June, The George will open seven days a week (bar only Monday), with bookings opening soon. For more details, head to: www.thegeorgegraveley.co.uk or follow @the.george.graveley.
