New opening in Sheffield: The Tavern Collective launches its first UK venue

Canadian brand opens Sheffield bar and restaurant with ‘laidback steampunk vibes’

An exciting first has come to Sheffield, with the opening of a new bar and restaurant in the Victoria Quays area of the city centre.

Tavern on the Quays is part of Canadian brand The Tavern Collective and the launch marks the group’s first venue in the UK.

Opening its doors to the general public on 22nd September 2025, the venue is based in the Grade II listed arches underneath the Quays Hotel, which was previously an unused space. Dating back to 1855, the location features the fully restored arches, complete with original stone, brick and steel beams.

The 5000 sq ft restaurant seats 90 guests, plus additional bar seating. Additional elements, taking the venue to 9000 sq ft in total, will open at a later date, including two under-arch private dining spaces for up to 40 people and a ballroom, which will seat a further 200, for conferences, weddings and parties. A patio will also be created over the coming months. Forty members of staff have already been recruited to the team.

Everything in the restaurant will be prepared fresh on site, with a mix of globally inspired and traditional British pub fare, with a focus on sharing elements. Likely to be particularly popular is the brand’s shareable Detroit Deep Dish pizzas and the Canadian favourite - real poutine. Cocktails have been created in collaboration with Diageo’s leading mixologists and have been named with a nod to Sheffield’s rich musical history.

Tavern on the Quays offers a contemporary spin on the classic pub, blending the modern style of the venues established in North America with a more traditional British setting. It has been designed with ‘laidback steampunk vibes’ in mind, creating a venue which aims to be playful, eclectic and offbeat – yet reassuringly familiar.

As suggested by the logo, which features a bulldog – JD – four-legged friends will be welcome. A special dog menu has been provided as well as dog treats, courtesy of local boutique dog bakery Ruby and Sophia’s.

Rene Ortiz,  Northland Restaurant Group Director UK&I, said: “We want Tavern on the Quays to become the place to be and a real neighbourhood hangout. It’s a beautiful building, full of history and lovely architectural details, but renovated in a modern way. From the relaxed steampunk vibes and our playful bulldog mascot, to surprising menu twists and throwback tunes, we can’t wait to show the people of Sheffield what The Tavern Collective is all about.

“We’re also delighted to be official sponsors of the mighty Sheffield Steelers – in homage to our Canadian roots and our love of ice hockey!”
