Designed by the creative masterstrokes of renowned artist and landscape designer Bill BensleyThe Slate Phuket is a design-led and art inspired beachfront hotel located on the pure shores and coral sands of Nai Yang Beach, Phuket in Thailand. A sublime sanctuary of art and illusion where industrial elements and a whimsical design combine for a highly unique guest experience, The Slate has invited guests and local residences to discover some of the world’s most talented artists since its beginning. This year, The Slate is delighted to announce its collaboration with Central Saint Martin’s College, the prestigious art school which forms part of the University of the Arts London, for its annual ‘Artist in Residence’ programme.

For up to six months, one of the lucky college graduates will become The Slate Phuket’s ‘Artist in Residence’ and take to the hotel to display their carefully crafted works of art in exhibitions, free for guests and locals alike to witness their exceptional artistic talent. The five-star resort will act as a live studio whereby students can perfect their work, guests can interact with the artist and even purchase their original works created in real time during the residency. With a philosophy rooted in immersive guest experiences, The Slate will also be offering guests complimentary cocktail evening and talks with the student artist, whereby visitors will be able to learn about their style of work, personal life and career, and artistic inspiration.

Running for its second year, this ‘Artist in Residence’ shows The Slate Phuket’s commitment to showcasing work of young, emerging artists and bringing an eclectic range of artistic talent to Thailand. Located in London, Central Saint Martin’s College offers a wide range of courses in diverse artistic disciplines and also encourages its students to address global challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity and inequality. Through this unique collaboration, The Slate Phuket and Central Saint Martin’s College believe that art can effectively break down geographical, cultural and social barriers.
