Wandsworth local, The Althorp, reopens its doors following refurbishment

Welcome back to The Althorp! Following a beautiful refurbishment, this Wandsworth local is back pulling pints and has introduced a new seasonal British menu alongside suitably summery spritz cocktails.

Perched by Wandsworth Common, The Althorp has been carefully restored to celebrate the pub’s heritage with modern touches. Dark wood furnishings, exposed brickwork, leather sofas and eclectic touches create an inviting spot to meet both mates, dates and everything in between. Outside, discover the sun trap terrace overlooking the common, providing the ideal setting for sipping spritzes on those long summer nights.

The pub also has two stunning rooms available for hire to celebrate any occasion, including The Snug, a semi-private, 20- seater haven which is perfect for relaxed celebrations or watching the big match in comfort. For larger occasions from birthdays to business events, look to The Common Room, available for full private hire with its own bar and space for 50 seated (60 standing).

On the menu, discover elevated pub favourites, lighter sharing options and daily specials from Head Chef Alex Da Cruz, all championing seasonal ingredients from British suppliers. Putting the spotlight on the British Isles, highlights include freshly dressed Maldon rock oysters with chimichurri; Burrata with Isle of Wight tomatoes and chervil pesto; Day boat fish with sautéed Jersey Royals and purple sprouting broccoli; and a West Country sharing steak, sourced from Oxford butcher, Aldens, served with a clotted cream mash.

Crowd-pleasing lunchtime plates offer a taste of comfort with a touch of flair, including Poached St Ewe’s hen’s egg with smashed avocado on homemade focaccia; a Suffolk chicken schnitzel with confit garlic butter; and a stellar selection of satisfying sandwiches.

No pub is complete without a roast, and Sundays at the Althorp are sure to impress with a choice of West Country beef, Suffolk roast chicken and Dingley Dell pork belly, alongside a weekly-changing sharing roast for those who prefer a bit of everything. Expect an abundance of crisp yet fluffy roasties, double-egg Yorkshires, seasonal vegetables and rich gravy with every plate, whilst a Evesham pea and broad bean wellington ensures there is something for every eater.

Behind the bar, pub-goers will be spoilt for choice. From local brews including Gypsy Hill to Jubel Mango and timeless Guinness and Young’s Ale pours, there’s something for every beer aficionado. The drinks list also spans a range of world wines and premium spirits whilst, ready for summer, there is a line-up of signature spritzes. Best enjoyed in the sun, tipples include a Sparkling Margarita with a kick of chilli; Passionfruit Yuzu with Tanqueray gin, Montzi passionfruit and yuzu, Mexican lime and topped with soda, and a Cuban Colada with spiced rum, pineapple, coconut and lime, whilst for those being mindful can take a pick through the alcohol-free cocktails, such as an Amalfi with Lyre’s Italian spritz.

Welcoming back old friends and new faces, The Althorp is now open seven days a week, with bookings available at www.thealthorp.co.uk – cheers!
